Fraunhofer-gesellschaft zur Foerderung der Aangewandten Forschung E.V.

The Fraunhofer Society (Fraunhofer Gesellschaft - FhG) undertakes applied research of direct utility to private and public enterprises and of wide benefit to society. The Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation (FhG-IPA) provides solutions to organisational and technological challenges, particularly within the production environment of industrial enterprises. Core business is the development, testing and piloting of methods, components and equipment, through the  implementation of complete manufacturing systems and plants. The work is being carried out on behalf of the manufacturing industry, or it is funded by public sector research programs, e.g. research programs initiated by the German ministries, by various research foundations and the European Union.The institute disposes of know-how, many years of experience, human resources, fully equipped laboratories and technology - in the field of product design, process development, factory and production planning to factory operation and maintenance management by using innovative and state-of-the-art technologies and tools for modelling, simulation, visualisation (VR) and optimisation of products and factories.

Main roles in INSITER

  • T1.1: Embedding the use of process simulation in self-inspection methods; adapting state-of-the-art of Total Quality Management systems and other relevant innovations from smart manufacturing/Factory of the Future (FoF) to construction.
  • T2.1 and T2.2: Being responsible as leader of T2.1 and key contributor within WP2 as a whole; developing process simulation in connection with BIM and Augmented Reality; interfacing input from measurement and diagnostic instruments to AR.
  • T4.1: Connecting BIM modelling with simulation of (site) logistics and construction processes.
  • T5.1: Facilitating lab testing with the lab equipment and infrastructure of Fraunhofer;
  • T6.1, T6.2 and T6.3: Providing input to development of training modules and being a linking-pin between EU programme FoF and EeB; publications in professional and scientific journals, workshops and presentation to academia and professional associations; development of exploitation strategy and plan.
  • T7.1: Active participation in management meetings (general assembly); fulfilment of all obligations for reporting.
